E.J. Harrison & Sons will talk about the changing nature of recycling at the Midtown Ventura Community Council meeting on Thursday, February 13.

Attendees will hear a presentation about Measure O community beautification grants and how groups can get a piece of the $100,000 pie. There will be an update on The Caffrodite Community Collective which has opened up on Main Street. The meeting starts at 7 pm in Cooper Hall at Grace Church, 75 MacMillan Avenue.

E.J. Harrison & Sons has always been on the cutting edge of waste management and continues planning for the future since its inception. But in recent years there has been mixed messages with China greatly reducing the amount of recycled goods it accepts.

That’s why the MVCC asked Nan Drake, Mike Harrison and Bill Camarillo to help us be more environmentally minded. Bill Camarillo will give a short talk about the tan barrel and the future of organic waste. Mike Harrison will explain the process of rebuilding the picking line at Gold Coast Recycle to make it more efficient.

Stacey Zarazua, Recreation Manager, and Tom Martin, Parks Manager, from the City of Ventura will talk about the grant program and explain of how it will work. The program should roll out soon and the grants may range from $1000 to $10,000 each that can go for projects not funded by CDBG funds and must be done on city property.

First up at the meeting will be a brief update from the Ventura Police Department for the midtown area followed by our Spotlight on Volunteers/Nonprofits. This month we will have a short presentation from the local business owners who have launched The Caffrodite Community Collective.
